It runs nightly from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are priced by date and start at $17, so booking early for a quieter night saves money. Animal buildings are closed during the event, so plan your visit around the lights.

Dates: November 13–15, 20–22, 27–29 and December 4–6, 2026 (Fridays to Sundays)
Presented by TELUS and recently voted one of the best Christmas markets in the world, this indoor-outdoor market brings together more than 300 vendors. It has expanded to four weekends for the first time this year. Expect European-inspired stalls, holiday cocktails, food trucks, fire pits, live entertainment and visits with Santa. New in 2026, Friday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. are adults-only (18+), which is a great option for a night out with friends. General parking is included with admission. Book tickets ahead, because weekend days get busy.
Lions Festival of Lights

Now in its 40th year, the Lions Festival of Lights is Calgary’s largest free drive-by Christmas light display. Volunteers build and install it every year. The grand opening is Saturday, November 21 at 5 p.m., and the lights are on nightly from 5:30 p.m. to midnight after that. You can view it from your car or park and walk through. It’s an easy, budget-friendly way to see the city lit up and a great first taste of Calgary’s holiday spirit if you’re new in town.
Outdoor Winter Activities in Calgary
Skating at Prince’s Island Park Lagoon
Location: Prince’s Island Park (698 Eau Claire Avenue SW)
Dates: Typically mid-December through February (weather dependent)
With Olympic Plaza closed for redevelopment until 2028, Prince’s Island Park is now the go-to spot for outdoor skating downtown. The natural lagoon rink is free to use, sits right on the Bow River with skyline views, and has skate rentals nearby. The park is also lit up for the holidays, so it pairs well with the light walk below.
Christmas Markets and Holiday Shopping in Calgary
Santa’s Enchanted Forest at Southcentre Mall
Location: Southcentre Mall (100 Anderson Road SE)
Dates: 2026 dates to be confirmed (it typically runs from mid-November through Christmas Eve)
Southcentre Mall’s Centre Court turns into an interactive, walk-through forest that leads to a visit with Santa. It’s free to wander, and Santa photo packages are available to book. It’s a good indoor option on colder days, especially if you’re combining it with regular holiday shopping.
Olympic Oval Holiday Market and Skate with Santa
Location: Olympic Oval (University of Calgary, 2500 University Drive NW)
Date: Saturday, December 5, 2026, noon to 5 p.m.
This one-day event combines a holiday market of more than 80 vendors, all University of Calgary students and alumni, with an afternoon skate on the Oval’s Olympic ice and a visit from Santa. It’s a nice, lower-key alternative to the bigger crowds elsewhere in the city.
